Social Life on the Island

The Club have a number of external events taking place at intervals throughout the year and previous activities included theatre trips, skittles evenings, visits to gardens and other places of interest.  Forthcoming events will be advertised on our website and published on the Social notice board and in 'The Newsletter’.  The social committee are always pleased to receive suggestions for future events.

Most years the Club holds a Dinner Dance and awards night in November, usually at Sonning Golf Club. This is a chance for a good meal together with dancing for those who wish.

Internal Social events have included, a Club pantomime, talks given by interesting visiting speakers, quizzes, BBQ’s, simulated Horse Racing, singing, Bingo and Karaoke.  The Islands boaters are special friends of the Club and we have several joint events, for instance, the Frostbite Cruise and a bonfire celebration. These and more and all with a great party atmosphere.

Points Evening

Held on Friday evenings, this half-social/half-serious game provides a game of relaxed bowling giving both new and experienced bowlers the chance to play in different team positions.  It should be a fun evening for everyone involved and is usually followed by an “American Supper”.  This is where everyone brings an item of food and everything is shared.

Although Points evenings are not strictly competitive, there is a scoring system and a Trophy is presented to the bowler with the highest total, calculated from the sum of their “best ten” scores of the season.

Occasionally the supper is replaced by a BBQ. This makes for a great social event, attended by both Points participants and other members as well.
