Location
Fry's Island (or De Montfort Island) Reading, Berkshire
Fry's Island is a beautiful, natural island located in the middle of the Thames where it flows near the centre of Reading. The Island is less than a 15 minute walk from Reading Station and central Caversham.
Access to the Island is by boat and can be arranged from either bank of the Thames. However, sadly, this does mean that wheelchair access is not currently possible.
The Island itself is home of two boatyards, a private bungalow and the Island Bohemian Bowls Club (perhaps the only bowling club in the world that runs its own ferry service).
Brigham Road & Car Park
The club has a small private car park close to the ferry point on the South side of the river. It is adjacent to 19 Brigham Road. [RG1 8DP].
Parking is often at a premium and car sharing is advisable where possible.
Drivers are often asked to leave keys or reposition their vehicles allowing others to exit and go home.
